The Kelly is where Freed of London lets a men's shoe have some personality. The shape is a clean lace-up on a Cuban heel — the raised heel that pitches your weight forward for Latin work — and the finishes run from restrained black leather to blue, brown and burgundy crocodile.
The croc options are the reason this model has a following. On a floor where nearly every man is in plain black, a burgundy or blue croc reads as deliberate rather than loud, particularly under stage lighting where flat black disappears. If you would rather not stand out, the black leather is the same shoe underneath.
A suede sole gives the grip and release Latin footwork needs, and the leather lining moulds to the foot with wear. Made in Britain by Freed, who have been at it since 1929.
